Start with what you do not need
The easiest way to pack lighter is to know what is already here. At Pompano Breeze, beach towels and beach chairs are available, so you do not need to fly with bulky towels or buy chairs on the way. Guest laundry is on site, which means a week’s clothes can be four days’ worth. Suites have a kitchen and studios have a kitchenette, so you can shop for food when you arrive instead of packing snacks.
If you need something specific for a baby, a medical need or a long stay, call or text us at (954) 256-1111 before you pack and we will tell you what we have.
The beach bag
- Reef-friendly sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, and lip balm with SPF
- Sunglasses and a wide-brim hat
- A refillable water bottle
- Swimsuits, two if you swim every day so one can dry
- A light cover-up or long-sleeve sun shirt
- Water shoes or sandals for hot sand
- A small dry bag or zip bag for your phone and keys
- A beach umbrella or small shade tent if you plan long days on the sand
The beach is about a 2-minute walk from our building, so you can go back for anything you forget. That alone takes a lot of pressure off packing.
Clothes by season
Pompano Beach is warm all year, but the seasons still change what you wear. Our weather by month guide has the average temperatures from NOAA climate normals.
November to April
Average highs run from the mid 70s to the low 80s, and average lows dip into the low 60s in January. Pack shorts and T-shirts for the day, plus long pants and a light sweater or jacket for evenings and the occasional cool, windy day after a cold front.
May to October
Expect heat and humidity, with average highs around 88 to 90 in midsummer. Bring breathable, quick-drying clothes, extra shirts and a compact umbrella or rain jacket for afternoon storms. Many restaurants run the air conditioning cold, so a thin layer helps there too.
A note on sun and rain
Whatever the month, the two things guests most often wish they had packed are better sun protection and something for the rain. The Florida sun burns faster than many visitors expect, especially on the water or by the pool. And a compact umbrella earns its place in the bag from May to October, when a dry morning can turn into a heavy shower by mid afternoon. Neither takes up much room, so bring both.
For dinner out
Pompano Beach is relaxed. Most restaurants near the beach are fine with smart shorts or a sundress. One slightly nicer outfit covers you if you plan a special dinner in Fort Lauderdale or Boca Raton.

For kids
- Rash guards or sun shirts, which save a lot of sunscreen
- Swim diapers for little ones
- Sand toys and a mesh bag to rinse them in
- Their own water bottles
- A rainy-day kit: cards, a book, a tablet and headphones
If you are travelling as a family, a suite gives you a separate bedroom and a living room, which makes nap times and early bedtimes easier.
Documents and essentials
- Photo ID and your booking confirmation
- Medications in your carry-on, with enough for a delay
- Insurance cards
- Phone chargers and a portable battery for beach days
- A credit card for car rental or deposits, if needed
If you are travelling between June 1 and November 30, add a few hurricane season items to your plan, such as travel insurance details and a way to get weather alerts. Our hurricane season travel tips explain more.
For long stays
Snowbirds and monthly guests can still pack lighter than they think. With laundry on site and a kitchen, you need about a week to ten days of clothes. Bring prescriptions for the full stay, any kitchen tools you are particular about and something cozy for January evenings. Our snowbird guide has more.
For fishing, snorkeling and day trips
If you plan to fish from the pier, you can bring your own rod or look into local tackle shops and rentals when you arrive. Check current Florida fishing license rules with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission before you go. For snorkeling, a mask and snorkel that fit you well are worth packing, since rentals do not always fit. For day trips to Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton or Butterfly World, a small daypack, a refillable bottle and a phone charger cover most needs.
For the flight or the drive
Keep a swimsuit, sunscreen, sandals and any medication in your carry-on or the front seat. If luggage is delayed or you arrive before check-in, you can still get to the beach. Drivers coming from the north often pack a separate bag for the overnight stop so the main suitcases stay in the trunk until you arrive.
Things to leave at home
- Beach towels and beach chairs, which are available here
- Heavy coats, unless you are driving from the north and need one on the way
- More shoes than you will wear; sandals and one pair of walking shoes is enough
- A week of snacks, since you can shop when you arrive
Parking and arrival
If you drive, parking is free on site, one space per unit. Check-in is at 4 PM and check-out is at 10 AM. Arriving early? Pack a beach bag at the top of your suitcase and head to the sand while you wait.
