The short answer
For most people, the best time to visit Pompano Beach is March, April, November or early December. You get warm beach days, cooler evenings, less rain than summer and a little more breathing room than the peak of winter. If you want the mildest, driest weather and do not mind more company, come January through March. If you want the warmest water and quieter beaches, and you are comfortable planning around afternoon storms and hurricane season, come in late spring or summer.
The numbers below are rounded averages from NOAA 1991-2020 climate normals for Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the closest long-record station to Pompano Beach. Our weather by month guide has the full table.
Winter: December to February
Average highs sit in the mid to upper 70s and average lows in the low to mid 60s. Rain is light, around 2.4 to 2.9 inches a month on average. This is the season most people picture when they think of Florida in winter: sunny, comfortable, a sweater some evenings.
It is also the busiest time of year. Snowbirds arrive for weeks or months, holidays fill the calendar and popular restaurants get busy at dinner. If you want these months, book early. Our snowbird guide explains how long-stay guests plan.
- Best for: snowbirds, couples, anyone escaping a northern winter
- Plan for: higher demand, a light layer for cool evenings
- Ocean: cooler than summer, still swimmable for many
Spring: March to May
Spring is the sweet spot for a lot of guests. Average highs climb from about 80 in March to about 86 in May. March and April stay fairly dry, then rain picks up in May as the wet season begins. Spring break brings families in March and April, so those weeks book up.
Spring also starts the sea turtle nesting season on Florida’s east coast. If you want to learn what that means for the beach, see our sea turtle season page.
- Best for: families on spring break, beach days without peak heat
- Plan for: spring break demand, rising humidity by May
- Ocean: warming steadily
Summer: June to August
Summer is hot and humid. Average highs are around 88 to 90 and average lows around 77 to 78. June is the wettest month on the record we use, at about 9.6 inches on average, but most summer rain comes as short, heavy afternoon storms rather than all-day washouts. Mornings are often clear, which is the time to be on the sand.
Crowds thin out after spring, and the water is at its warmest. Families on school break still come, and many guests like the slower pace. Hurricane season starts June 1, so read our hurricane season travel tips before you book.
- Best for: warm-water swimmers, families on summer break, early risers
- Plan for: heat, afternoon storms, sun protection
- Ocean: warmest of the year
Fall: September to November
September and October are still warm and wet, with average highs in the mid to upper 80s and around 7 to 8 inches of rain a month on average. According to the National Hurricane Center, the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is September 10, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October. That does not mean storms are likely in any given week, but it is the time to stay flexible and watch the forecast.
November is a turning point. Average rainfall drops to about 3.7 inches, highs ease to around 81 and the humidity starts to break. Many locals think November is the best month of the year.
- Best for: quiet beach weeks, flexible travelers
- Plan for: peak hurricane season in September and October
- Ocean: still warm

How to pick your month
Start with what matters most to you:
- Mild and dry: January to March, booked well ahead
- Warm and still fairly dry: April, November and early December
- Warmest water and quieter beaches: June to August
- The calmest town, with a flexible plan: late August to October
Then think about who is coming. Families often care most about school calendars and space, which is why many choose a suite with a living room and kitchen. Couples have more freedom to pick the shoulder months and often choose a studio.
Holidays and busy weeks
A few stretches of the calendar fill faster than the weather alone would suggest. The weeks around Christmas and New Year, school spring breaks in March and April, and long holiday weekends all bring extra visitors. If your dates fall on one of these, book as early as you can and expect the beach and restaurants to be livelier. If you have flexibility, shifting a trip by even a week either side can make a noticeable difference to availability.
Special events can also change the feel of a week. Concerts, festivals and fishing tournaments come and go each year, so check the city’s event calendar for your dates before you go.
Make any month easier
Wherever you land on the calendar, a few things help. Stay close enough to walk to the beach so you can go early, come back for lunch and head out again when the heat breaks. Have a pool for the hours when the sand is too hot. Keep a kitchen for breakfasts and easy dinners. And pick a rainy-day plan in advance; our rainy day ideas are a good start.
We are about a 2-minute walk from the beach, with a courtyard pool and free parking. When you have a month in mind, check availability and book direct.
