Shopping, the vacation way
Most of our guests shop for two reasons: to stock the kitchen, and to spend a rainy or restless afternoon somewhere new. Pompano Beach covers the first easily, and the bigger shopping destinations of Broward County are a short drive away for the second.
Store lists change often, so we keep this guide to places rather than individual shops. Check each center’s own directory before you make the trip for something specific.
Pompano Citi Centre
Pompano Citi Centre is the city’s main open-air shopping center, at the corner of Federal Highway (US 1) and Copans Road, at 1955 North Federal Highway. It is a practical stop for clothes, shoes, home goods and the things you forgot to pack. Its anchor stores have included discount department stores such as TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, Ross and Burlington, along with JCPenney, and there is a home improvement store and a pet store on site.
It is a short drive from the beach, with surface parking. Because it is a shopping center rather than an enclosed mall, plan on walking between stores outdoors; a summer afternoon shower can be a good time to linger inside one.
Store lineups change. Check the Pompano Citi Centre directory before you go for a specific store.
Groceries and kitchen basics
With a full kitchen in our suites and a kitchenette in our studios, many guests do a grocery run on day one. There are supermarkets and pharmacies along Federal Highway and Atlantic Boulevard, all a short drive away. If you have a long stay planned, ask us when you book and we will tell you where our regulars shop.
The Pompano Beach Green Market
In season, the best shopping in town is outdoors. The Pompano Beach Green Market runs on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, from November through April, 9 AM to 1 PM, on the Pompano Beach Cultural Center campus at 50 West Atlantic Boulevard. Admission is free, and there is parking at City Hall and on the south side of the Cultural Center and library campus.
Expect produce, baked goods, honey, seafood and orchids, plus handmade crafts, art and wellness products. The market is presented by the Pompano Beach Historical Society and the City of Pompano Beach, and the city has added free morning yoga, kids’ crafts and music on market days. Check the city’s events page for the current dates and any holiday closures.
Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise
For a serious shopping day, Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise is the big one. Owned and managed by Simon, it is an enormous outlet and value mall with hundreds of stores, and Visit Florida calls it the largest outlet and value retail destination in the United States. It includes The Colonnade Outlets, a luxury wing with designer brands, plus a large movie theater and plenty of places to eat.
It is a longer drive west, toward the edge of the Everglades, so plan for a half day or more. Weekday mornings are the quietest. Wear comfortable shoes, because the walk from one end to the other is long.
Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale
If you prefer boutiques, galleries and a sidewalk café to a mall, head south to Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. It is a walkable street of independent shops, restaurants and art galleries, and a pleasant evening stroll. Combine it with a visit to downtown Fort Lauderdale; our guide to Fort Lauderdale from Pompano Beach covers the drive and what else is there.

Art and local makers
For something you will not find in a mall, look at the city’s arts venues. Bailey Contemporary Arts, known as BaCA, has resident artists working in studios upstairs, and the city’s galleries run rotating exhibitions. Opening nights and events are listed on the Pompano Beach Arts calendar. See rainy-day ideas for more on the city’s galleries.
One more tip for longer stays: snowbirds and families staying a week or more often do one big grocery trip at the start and smaller top-ups as they go. With a fridge and stove in a suite, you will eat out because you want to, not because you have to.
Plan your shopping days
- Save the outlets for a cloudy day, and keep sunny days for the beach.
- Go to the Green Market early for the best produce and the coolest weather.
- Bring a cooler bag in the car for groceries in the heat.
- Free parking at our building, one space per unit, means you can unload straight to your door.
For more ways to spend the day, see things to do in Pompano Beach, or pair a shopping trip with a morning at Butterfly World. Golfers can split off for a round at the city’s courses while everyone else shops.
For a week or a month, a suite with a full kitchen makes the grocery run worth it. A studio with a kitchenette suits a couple.
